I teach courses in the DMV about sexuality, race, gender, and American popular culture. I conduct ethnographic research into the everyday lived experiences of Black gay, lesbian, and bisexual people in the U.S. I frequently give talks about the intersections of popular culture and critical theory. I write articles about ethnography, language, and Black Feminist and Queer Theory. I am presently writing a book about the word “ratchet,” exploring the way that it is used within my field site and within broader U.S. cultural spaces.
